Questa è una raccolta fondi organizzata dal Movimento Antincendio Ibleo (MAI). (English version below)
La situazione nella Sicilia sudorientale è tragica.
Quest’anno gli incendi sono iniziati con furia già dal 1 aprile, e solo nella zona Noto-Avola siamo arrivati a ben oltre 50 incendi nelle settimane seguenti. Sono molteplici e quasi quotidiani, devastano ampie zone incluso riserve naturali e causando incalcolabili danni all’ambiente, all'economia agricola, e alla società civile.
Occorre intervenire immediatamente, e lo possiamo fare se abbiamo gli strumenti per controllare meglio il territorio che amiamo. Abbiamo già più di 150 volontari distribuiti nel territorio, in una rete crescente che può aiutare a prevenire, avvistare e anche spegnere gli incendi.
Per svolgere meglio queste attività di difesa della nostra natura, occorrono
- telecamere e droni per la videosorveglianza e per l’individuazione dei colpevoli che appiccano gli incendi
- segnaletica informativa
- materiale atto allo spegnimento degli incendi come battifuoco, pompe ad acqua ed altri materiali del kit personale - questi verranno distribuiti capillarmente affinché si possa arrivare subito già preparati sul luogo dell'incendio per poterlo spegnere quando è ancora piccolo!
- materiale a protezione degli operatori volontari sul posto.
Il 100% del denaro raccolto verrà investito per questi scopi e ci sarà un’assoluta trasparenza sull’impiego delle risorse.
Il MAI (Movimento Antincendio Ibleo) é un movimento nato nel 2020 dal basso di cittadini ed associazioni, che stanchi del problema degli incendi dolosi, lo affrontano con la collaborazione, la diffusione della cultura antincendio e la creazione di una grande rete di solidarietà sul territorio.
Il movimento si contraddistingue per l'approccio pratico, attraverso la presenza sui luoghi degli incendi; la condivisione di buone pratiche di prevenzione, presidio del territorio e gestione delle emergenze; il confronto aperto sugli interessi e sulle inadempienze legati al business dei roghi e le soluzioni esistenti; la creazione di un rapporto diretto tra cittadinanza e Istituzioni.
Con il tuo aiuto possiamo fare la differenza, perché più la partecipazione è ampia e diffusa, maggiori sono le possibilità di intervenire tempestivamente e di prevenire.

This is a fundraiser organized by the Movimento Antincendio Ibleo (MAI).
The situation in southeastern Sicily is tragic.
This year, the fires started with fury as early as April 1: there have been well upwards of 50 fires in the Noto-Avola area alone since then. The fires are numerous and daily, devastating large areas that include sensitive nature reserves and causing incalculable damage to the environment, the agricultural economy, and people’s wellbeing.
We need to take action to defend our precious lands immediately, and we can do it if we have the tools for prevention, deterrence and fire-fighting. We already have more than 150 volunteers spread across the territory, in a growing network that can help prevent, spot and indeed physically extinguish fires.
To care for our land and help stop the criminals torching our landscape, we need the following:
- cameras and drones for video surveillance and for identifying the culprits who (usually intentionally) set the fires
- sign and posters indicating that areas are being watched
- material suitable for extinguishing fires such as water pumps, protective gear and other materials from the recommended personal kit. The idea is to distribute these materials widely to equip locals to intervene speedily -- to be able to extinguish fires when they are still small!
- other investigative materials to help bring criminals to justice for intentionally burning our land.
100% of the money raised will be invested for these purposes and there will be absolute transparency on the use of resources.
The MAI (Movimento Antincendio Ibleo) is a grassroots movement that started in 2020. Citizens and associations, outraged by the relentless arson attacks, joined together to spread the culture of fire prevention and to create a large network of hands-on action in the territory.
The movement stands out for its practical approach, through the presence of its volunteers on-site to stop fires when government institutions are absent or overwhelmed; sharing good practices for prevention, territorial supervision and emergency management; open discussions on the root causes of the fires – including corrupt economic interests – and proposed solutions; and the creation of a direct relationship between citizenry and institutions.
With your help we can make a difference, because the more people participate actively, the greater the chances of intervening promptly and preventing devastating fires.
